I Only Wanna Give It To You

Ok, so maybe the start of classes wasn't the best time for me to start posting to this website but what do you do. I am very lazy, as my readers or anyone who saw my first semester GPA would agree.

But anyways enough excuses, today's song is Elle Varner's debut single "I Only Wanna Give It To You". I'm really surpised that this song didn't blow up, with the catchy chours, high energy up-tempo beat and a feature from J. Cole, one of the best up and coming rappers who had the top album in 2011. But hey that's how things work some times. The old school hip hop influence on Elle and her colorful personality make this love song one of the more interesting ones.

All My Love

One of my favorite groups which I recently discovered is TiRon and Ayomari, their debut album A Sucker for Pumps made it on the top 15 Hip Hop albums list from my favorite music blog http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/ . The entire album is an takes a topic covered by the majority of pop music but largely ignored by rap. Love, not fucking bitches or pulling sluts in the club, but a legitmate relationship from the moment he sees the girl to the inevitable break up.

If I was lazy, I would simply post their entire album until Cupid's Day, but there are some other suprising love songs that fit well and should get some exposure. I chose this as the first one to post mainly because it was the lead single and the only song with a music video. The song is one of the first conversations between the guy (the narrator in the concept album) and the girl and its the typical scenario that we all know. Guy meets girl, guy like girl, girl has scub douchebag boyfriend, guy tries to convince girl he's better for her. I also love the music video, not only does it take have a complex story line and a reference to hip hop legend Slick Rick, but the main characters are elementary school kids taking me back to those crushes back in first and second grade that drove all of us crazy.

Look out for more from the kids from Cali espically during my love song special, here's the video.

And girl even though we act like we want sluts, we always fall for classy girls ... in the end we're all suckers for pumps.

Good Vibrations

One of my favorite new school rappers for a while has been Young Prince (now Beau Young Prince). He is able to capture this mellow flow that can apply not only to stoners, but anyone feeling chill can enjoy. Another big thing for BYP is the fact that he raps about what he knows about, chilling with friends, dealing with college crap and his travels doing college shows. He was actually up and Maryland last year for the end of year concert opening for Nelly, and his music will be featured often here. On this song the DC native hooks up with another DMV musician Potomac Boy's Club Brenton Duvall for the super chill song Good Vibrations.

On another note this will be the last 'normal' post for a while, since love songs have been such a major part of music from now til Cupid's Day (my spelling sucks so I'm not even going to try with that) I'll post a love song, and these will be classy for the most part ... still trying to figure out how to make Young Jeezy classy

Apologizes

Ok, its been probably 6 months since my last post ... I'm sorry, I had finals for high school, moving back to the united states, getting a job, starting college, and just my overall laziness. From now on I will try to update this blog at least 3 times a week if I can't get to it every night.
Also you may want to go and check out some playlists I made during this websites 'hiatus' so head over to http://8tracks.com/swellyj and enjoy and please favorite ... cause none of my friend will.

What You're Looking For - Amen ft. Saigon

Okay, anyone who watches Entourage knows at least one of the people on the song. Yes, believe it or not the guy Saigon on the show who is managed by Turtle is a real rapper. One of the legends of underground and mixtape rap for the last decade, he finally released his first label 'studio' album 'The Greatest Story Never Told' and the tracks off of that are solid, if you like this song I suggest you check it out.

The song I posted today is off of the 2009 album Queen's Boulevard (a reference to Vinny Chase's film that came out in season 2 of Entourage). It is a pretty good album and I would like to hear more by this guy but I haven't found anything by him (if anyone does please comment). Thank the guys over at BroBible.com for this find, since it was on one of their playlists which my brother showed me.

Enjoy and keep chillin'

We Gone - Kidz In The Hall

I'm not sure what you would describe Kidz In The Hall as when it comes to hip-hop classifications. I mean they are definitely not mainstream, they have been around for a while so you can't call them 'New School Hip Hop', and they aren't trying to bring back Old School. That's probably why I like them so much, their music is smooth and easy to listen to. The song I'm posting by them is 'We Gone' which was the 'last track' (there's a hidden track after it, those things really get on my nerves on iTunes) off of their mixtape 'The Professional Leisure Tour' from last year. Enjoy the track, and if you want more, you know how to get it.

Yes I'm very lazy - Valley Girl

Okay, I'm really lazy, but I will make an effort to update this more often
Today's song is by one of my favorite new school hip-hop groups The Dean's List (a rapper a DJ and a producer), here is a re-mix of a The Script's Breakeven (keep hearing good things about them but haven't been bother to check them out yet)
Enjoy,  just don't cry like my S did when I played it for her
